  Professor Deng Xiangzheng is appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers of Development Geography

Deng Xiangzheng, the researcher of the Institute of Geographic Science and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, doctoral supervisor, director of the Agricultural Policy Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, distinguished researcher of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (core backbone), and distinguished professor of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and a young scholar of the Yangtze River Scholars Award Program of the Ministry of Education. He is the project leader of the first batch of national key research and development plans, and responsible for over 30 projects and topics such as the National Science and Technology Support Plan, the National 973 Plan, and the National Public Welfare Industry Research Special Project.

Based on the interdisciplinary education background (successively obtaining the doctorate degrees in GIS and environmental economics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Waikato, New Zealand) and academic training, he has been engaged in research and teaching in natural resource management, environmental geography and management, agricultural policy and decision-making for a long time.

In recent years, his research mainly focused on theoretical and empirical research on land use competition and optimization. Innovative methods for land use competition and optimization management have been proposed, and competition curves within cultivated land and between cultivated land and construction land, as well as between forests/grasslands, have been derived. Equilibrium solutions for land use type conversion have been provided, changes in agricultural land use have been revealed, and dynamic indicators for measuring spatiotemporal differences in land quality have been proposed by Prof. Deng. In additon, numerous empirical studies have been conducted to assist decision-making by Prof. Deng.

The main academic part-time positions of Prof. Deng include members of the Urban KAN Scientific Committee of the Future Earth Plan, members of the International Organization Cooperation Advisory Expert Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, members of the National Standardization Professional Committee - Land and Resources Information Technology Committee, Vice Chairman of the Energy Economy and Management Research Branch of the China Dual Law Society, Director of the China Society of Land and Resources Economics, and Leader of the Industrial Policy and Development Geography Working Group of the China Geographical Society Director of the Resource Flow and Management Professional Committee of the China Natural Resources Society, Vice Chairman of the China Urban Rural Development Think Tank Alliance, and others. Currently serving as the Associate Editor of Resources, Conservation & Recycling, Editor of Regional Environmental Change, and editorial board member of journals such as Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Land Use Science, Journal of Geographic Science, Land, Journal of Grassland Industry, Journal of Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management.
